The Team at Newcastle Helix are celebrating after winning the ‘Collaborators Award’ in the EG Awards 2019.
The EG Awards are the most coveted in real estate and were hosted and presented by Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman and Samantha McClary, the editor of EG Magazine. This new-look event was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 22 October (Wednesday) and celebrated those making the biggest difference in the industry.
The awards focused on individuals and businesses at the forefront of innovation and those who change the property industry and the built environment for the better – recognising that sustainable growth and positive change are all just as important as financial performance and deal-making.
Prior to the event hundreds of entries were judged by a varied group of real estate professionals with Newcastle Helix shortlisted alongside six other inspirational businesses who are all helping to shape the future of real estate.
On the night Michelle Percy, Director of Place at Newcastle City Council, Abi Kelly, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Newcastle University and Rachel Dickie, Head of Urban Regeneration at Legal & General picked up the award on behalf of Newcastle Helix.
“A great initiative, fantastic, taking the lead in bridging the gap, compelling” were just some of the words used to describe the award nomination. Judges commented that Newcastle Helix ‘oozed collaboration’ and was creating real value in the true definition of the word.
Innovation is at the heart of Newcastle Helix’s vision, bringing businesses, researchers and communities together to address the big challenges we face nationally and globally.
It is the UK’s biggest urban development of its kind outside of London, combining prestigious commercial and residential space with first-class research and education facilities. It is being delivered through unique public and private sector partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle University and Legal & General.
Commenting on the win, Rachel Dickie, Head of Urban Regeneration, Legal & General said:

Cllr Ged Bell, Cabinet Member for Employment and Culture, Newcastle City Council added:

We couldn’t be prouder that Newcastle Helix is helping to create employment opportunities for local people, through its unique approach to collaboration. It’s not just a site with lots of great buildings, it is a test bed for new products and services and a place where global innovation happens. This is brilliant news for Newcastle Helix and for our city.”
Abi Kelly, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Newcastle University added:
“Newcastle Helix embodies the University’s commitment to making a positive contribution to our city and region, and beyond. It has become a place where our academics and students come together with industry and other partners to pioneer advances in areas such as Data and Ageing.
