A deserved reputation for subsea excellence
Our region is the leading location in England for the oil and gas sector – boasting a 40% growth since 2012 – and is a major supplier of manufacturing and engineering solutions for the industry and employer of over 66,000 skilled workers in the region.
North East England is home to world-class engineering and manufacturing, with investors including BEL Valves, GE Oil and Gas, Technip, NOV, IHC Engineering and Tekmar Energy.
All of these companies help North East England strengthen and expand its reputation for excellence across all areas of subsea technology, offshore engineering, high-value fabrication, and pipeline and trenching.
We have large fabrication yards with access to the North Sea located on the River Tyne – major manufacturers including Bridon International, Grundfos Manufacturing Ltd and Hydratight.
North East England also has a significant number of the wider supply chain companies in engineering fabrication, topside modules and specialist structures: GT Group, A&P Group, Fraiser Hydraullics and Osbit Power to name but a few.
Our region leads the world with its world renowned subsea cluster specialising in umbilicals, flowlines, valves and subsea trenching and cable lay equipment – firms such as GE Wellstream, Bel Valves, Technip Umbilicals, IHC Engineering Business and SMD.
Over 70% of all North Sea oil and gas platforms were built in our region at our large fabrication yards.
We have a proven track record of success in attracting more coal, oil and gas sector foreign investment projects from 2010-2014 than any other region in England.
Our region also offers superb training for the oil and gas industry to ensure it has the highly trained workforce investors need to grow and thrive.
Newcastle College’s Energy Academy on the banks of the River Tyne offers qualifications in energy technologies, manufacturing and maintenance. Its facilities include welding bays, plasma cutting and engineering workshops.
