Supporting Services

Blyth provides a central strategic east coast location situated approximately midway between Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth.  Port of Blyth is approximately 20 minutes from Newcastle International airport and 30 mins from direct rail links to London and Scotland. The port offers direct access to open sea with no air-draft restrictions and has a tidal range limited to 4.5m. Port of Blyth operates 9 deep-water berths with 9/9.5m draught over 1.5km in length across its five main terminals for mobilisation/demobilisation activities in oil & gas, offshore wind and subsea project activity. Each terminal has permanent heavy lift cranes up to 100 tons at 10m reach in addition to SPMTs on site, fork lifts, trailers, reach stackers and other heavy plant and equipment. The port has significant expertise in managing complex heavy lifts and project manages each individual operation on behalf of the client. Ownership Structure

Blyth Harbour Commission is a Trust Port established 1882 by an act of parliament. The port has no shareholders or dividends to support and all surpluses are reinvested to maintain, improve and develop key infrastructure. Blyth Harbour Commission’s activities are as follows:

  • Port of Blyth – port operations, conservancy, stevedoring
  • Transped Ltd – worldwide logistics services (including project forwarding and export packing services)
  • PTS (Port Training Services) – Nationally recognised provider of port related and industrial/offshore related training
