Accenture is using a £1.85 million grant from the Let’s Grow North East regional growth fund to create over 100 new jobs as it expands its business in the North East of England.
So far Accenture has employed 115 people in North Tyneside through Let’s Grow in a variety of roles including apprenticeships, operations analysts, software engineers, cloud technologies, digital, data analytics and agile development. Through Let’s Grow, Accenture hopes to create even more new jobs in the region for disadvantaged people by the end of 2016.
“This grant recognises Accenture’s commitment to creating sustainable jobs in the North East,” said Mark Larsen, managing director for Accenture’s North East Delivery Centre. “It will accelerate our growth in the region, helping us to create the diverse and highly skilled technology workforce we need and, most importantly, help us to provide high value jobs for many local people that have faced real challenges in their efforts to secure work.”
“Accenture’s place in the region’s economy is well established following five years of job creation and business growth,” said Norma Redfearn, Elected Mayor of North Tyneside. “We identified the funding opportunity and supported the company’s application for the grant. This will provide further employment opportunities for our local residents and boost the development of the technology sector in the North East.”
“We are delighted to be helping Accenture to deliver this massive boost to the local economy,” said Simon Allen of BE Group, the organisation that manages Let’s Grow. “Accenture is providing high skill opportunities for graduates and other talented people in the region, which will help reinforce the North East’s position within the UK knowledge economy.”
Let’s Grow is a £60 million Regional Growth Fund program providing support for capital investment and R&D projects that will create new, sustainable jobs. It promotes the expansion and diversification of businesses, encouraging firms to expand or to set up new establishments in the North East.
Accenture recently passed the 600 employee mark in the North East, trebling the company’s headcount in the region in the five years in which the Newcastle Delivery Centre has been operational. Accenture is expanding into a second office building at North Tyneside’s Cobalt Park to accommodate this growth.
Accenture is committed to tackling the technology skills gap and broadening employment opportunities for young people in the North East. This commitment includes the annual Girls in STEM event, coding clubs in schools, and the UK Technology Apprenticeship program which offered 20 additional roles in North Tyneside in 2015, bringing the total of Accenture apprenticeships in the region to 70.
