Easy to reach and globally connected

Great infrastructure and business connectivity

An international airport that offers daily flights to London, Europe and Dubai plus, three Ports and fantastic rail and road networks, North East England is connected to all major markets worldwide

Ports
North East England has three deep-sea Ports, all of which are highly strategic hubs for businesses serving Northern England and Scotland.

Our East coast position is perfect to react quickly to transportation needs, offering a worldwide shipping service, as well as exceptional national and regional rail and road links, including connectivity to Newcastle international airport and London. For global investors, this ease of access to the rest of the world reduces cost, time and carbon footprint.

The Port of Tyne has three rail terminals, a modern international cruise and passenger terminal, and five commercial business areas.

The Port of Blyth is home to the first offshore wind farm in the UK and to the National Renewable Energy Centre Catapult Research Facility.

The Port of Sunderland is located beside an extensive impounded dock system and boasts 24/7 access to deep water river berths. It offers comprehensive services in cargo handling, warehousing and distribution.

Each Port has a combination of deep water berths, heavy-lift cranage, dry dock and storage facilities, maintenance areas and superb distribution access to the rest of the world.

Airports
Newcastle International Airport offers flights to over 80 worldwide destinations including daily flights to Dubai, Amsterdam and Paris. For UK travel the airport services up to seven flights a day to London and a frequent service to Aberdeen airport.

Roads
North East England has an excellent road infrastructure, benefitting from some of the least congested roads in the UK. The network has recently seen significant investment and improvement.

The A1 national highway connects the region to London and Edinburgh, whilst Manchester can be accessed via the M62, Birmingham via the M6 and the A19 links us directly with Yorkshire. Within the region, the Tyne Tunnel and various Tyne and Wear bridges provide quick and convenient access to the range of towns and cities.

Rail
There are three major train stations in North East England connecting the region directly to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Scotland. There are direct train services from Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham to London in less than three hours and run frequently each day.

The Tyne and Wear Metro is the largest Rapid Transit System in the UK outside of London, with over 60 stations serving Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Sunderland in the Tyne and Wear region, connecting a large workforce to local business areas.

Commuting
The North East England workforce spends thirteen hours per year less time commuting than the national average. We have the lowest average commuting distance of 7.8 miles and one of the lowest commuting times of 23.6 minutes.

IT
