Advanced Electric Machines is proud to originate from and operate out of North East England. Having spun out of Newcastle University in 2017, we are privileged to fly the flag for a region that is renowned for its rich history in manufacturing.
As a company, we have always expressed our unwavering commitment to contributing back to the area. Much like our iconic North Eastern manufacturing predecessors, we want to share our successes with the local community, bringing in local people to become part of our team. We want to emulate these companies in being a large homegrown manufacturer that exports its products across the world from the region.
The North East is our home, and long may that continue.
Advanced Electric Machines (AEM)
Based in the North East of England, Advanced Electric Machines (AEM) was founded in 2017, when it was spun out from Newcastle University’s world-class electric motor research team, led by Chief Executive Officer, Dr James Widmer, and Chief Technical Officer, Dr Andy Steven.
AEM is an internationally recognised designer and manufacturer of electric motors and powertrain systems, with customers all over the world. They remove rare earth permanent magnets and copper from their motors to create a uniquely recyclable solution.
The company’s vision is to design and build the world’s most sustainable electric vehicle motors to the global automotive and transport sectors, from its UK facilities. It utilises its expertise in materials, manufacturing and design to ensure its solutions are more sustainable, efficient and cost-effective.
