onHand, a digital business that connects companies and their teams with thousands of volunteering opportunities across the UK, expanded into Newcastle in January 2022.
Opening a co-working base at The Catalyst enabled onHand to tap into the on-site ageing expertise from the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), and data to guide the product’s development from the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) which will aid in guiding volunteers towards opportunities to support older people.
The tech-based company boasts a health, ageing and data client base including Newcastle Building Society, Trainline and Prenetics and aims to support businesses as part of their CSR activities in connecting staff to volunteering opportunities that will help meet the demand for an increase in social care, and address an estimated 200 million unused corporate volunteering hours per year across the nation.
onHand partnered with NICA and Newcastle Building Society to first launch the digital platform. Since the partnership, more than 1,000 volunteering missions in the North East have been completed using the onHand app, with around 75% of those undertaken by colleague volunteers at Newcastle Building Society.
