International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP)

Description:

International Advanced Manufacturing Park – IAMP is a joint venture between Sunderland and South Tyneside councils, working in partnership with developer Henry Boot. The 150-hectare greenfield site is being brought forward to accommodate the next generation of advanced manufacturing projects, particularly those linked to electrification and other leading-edge environmental technologies. The site forms the hub of a world-class cluster of activity related to electric vehicle R&D and production, with a supporting ecosystem that taps the extensive expertise of local universities.

IAMP is located on the strategic highway network, close to major ports (Tyne, Wear and Tees) and airports (Newcastle and Teesside). Large-scale highway enhancements have recently been undertaken to help ‘future proof’ IAMP. The site is situated adjacent Nissan’s Sunderland plant – the UK’s largest and most productive automotive assembly operation. A total of 400,000 sq.m. of industrial floorspace is planned in the form of large floorplate industrial premises, along with ancillary uses such as a hotel, with more than £400 million of investment anticipated and 7,000 people expected to be working on the site when it is fully developed.

25-hectares of ‘IAMP One’ has Enterprise Zone status, offering 100% Enhanced Capital Allowances. Tier-one automotive suppliers Snop UK (£30 million, 22,000 sq.m. of floorspace) and Faltec (£14 million, 12,500 sq.m.) have already developed plants on IAMP, along with an £18 million, 12,000 sq.m. speculative unit developed by Sunderland City Council for an electrification project. Envision AESC has committed to developing a £450 million, 109,000 sq.m. ‘gigafactory’ to produce lithium-ion batteries, joining its existing battery plant located next to Nissan. To continue this success, ‘IAMP Two’ is now in council ownership and is being brought forward to meet strong demand.
