International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP)

Description:

International Advanced Manufacturing Park – IAMP is a joint venture between Sunderland and South Tyneside councils. The 150-hectare greenfield site is being brought forward to accommodate the next generation of advanced manufacturing projects, particularly those linked to electrification and other leading-edge environmental technologies. The site forms the hub of a world-class cluster of activity related to electric vehicle R&D and production, with a supporting ecosystem that taps the extensive expertise of local universities.

IAMP is located on the strategic highway network, close to major ports (Tyne, Wear and Tees) and airports (Newcastle and Teesside). Large-scale highway enhancements have recently been undertaken to support ongoing development at IAMP. The site is situated adjacent to Nissan’s Sunderland plant – the UK’s largest and most productive automotive assembly operation. A total of 400,000 sq.m. of industrial floorspace is planned in the form of large floorplate industrial premises, along with ancillary uses such as a hotel, with more than £400 million of investment anticipated and 7,000 people expected to be working on the site when it is fully developed.

25-hectares of IAMP One development is home to Tier-one automotive suppliers Snop UK (£30 million, 22,000 sq.m. of floorspace) and Faltec (£14 million, 12,500 sq.m.) who have already developed plants on IAMP, along with an £18 million, 12,000 sq.m. speculative unit developed by Sunderland City Council. Envision AESC is on site constructing a £450 million, 109,000 sq.m. gigafactory to produce lithium-ion batteries, close to its existing battery plant located next to Nissan. To continue this success, IAMP Two – the Northern Employment Area – will be brought forward next to continue to meet demand, with further infrastructure works set to be progressed.
