Description:
In the heart of Sunderland’s transforming city centre is Riverside Sunderland, a 5.5 ha site that offers exceptional views over the River Wear and out to open sea. The site enjoys first-class public transport connectivity, as well as fast access to the strategic highway network via a recently completed dual carriageway and iconic bridge, Northern Spire. Riverside Sunderland is designed to be future proof, with the highest standard of IT connectivity and carbon neutral buildings, including ultra-sustainable smart homes and offices and green open spaces that allow people to live, work and unwind in a stunning environment.
Delivery of Riverside Sunderland is underpinned by £100 million of investment from Legal & General, funding 15,000 sq.m. of speculative office space. This will join the first two buildings on the site, The Beam (5,000 sq.m. of ‘Grade A’ office space valued at £20 million, which is already home to prestigious occupiers such as Ocado) and the £60 million, 18,000 sq.m. City Hall. Beyond this, there is scope for at least another 20,000 sq.m. of offices. Eventually the site will accommodate around 8,000 jobs, generating footfall and spend in the city centre. Companies locating on Riverside Sunderland will join other major employers based in the city centre, including the global HQs of Tombola and Hays Travel.
Riverside Sunderland will also be home to a £36 million eye hospital, offering state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, as well as up to 1,000 homes and select retail & leisure outlets, including quality cafés and restaurants. Plans are also moving ahead for the creation of an urban park and the construction of a new footbridge bridge that will further enhance connectivity between Riverside Sunderland and other regeneration sites. All of this comes on top of a massive programme of private and public investment throughout the city centre, creating exceptional facilities for those living and working on Riverside Sunderland.
