Around 200 delegates will visit the region’s headline space conference and exhibition, to hear how they can play a part in using ‘big data’ collected from satellites to develop radical new ways to tackle the complex challenges facing our cities and communities.
The third annual North East Satellite Applications Annual Conference and Exhibition, entitled ‘Satellites Enabling a Better World’, will see around 200 delegates gather at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on Thursday, March 9th to hear about challenges facing cities and communities to shape the solutions of the future.
The UK’s future will be shaped by innovative technologies, demographics and lifestyles: the way people will live, work and interact will change dramatically over the next 50 years.
Our communities are the heart of social, cultural and economic life. In the next 50 years, the UK population is estimated to rise as much as 25% to 80.5 million making it one of the EU’s largest countries. This change will create many challenges but will also create a great opportunity to create a better quality of life for us all.
The North East is at the forefront of developing and commercialising data-led satellite applications, which are rapidly changing the way businesses, government and communities work together.
The conference’s delegates will represent businesses from the North East’s broad space and technology base. Their focus will be on overcoming four challenges that will face UK cities over the coming years: Transport & Infrastructure, Health & Social Care, Sustainable Communities, and the use of Drone Technology.
Keynote speaker, Mark Tewdwr-Jones from Newcastle City Futures, said:
“The North East has an international reputation of being at the forefront of engineering and technological excellence for the last 200 years. That spirit of ambition has never diminished, even in difficult times.
“By working together, in partnership with our excellent universities, we can continue to devise projects and services that demonstrate our determination to be a test bed place of innovation. Harnessing the very latest digital and technological advancements, we can apply them not only to the wider structural needs of the region, but also make them exportable to cities and regions the world over.
“This event creates a unique platform to showcase both our skills and our aspirations.”
This year’s conference is focused entirely on developing new opportunities for data providers, satellite applications and drone technology businesses.
It will allow delegates to hear directly from some of the UK’s leading brands about the challenges they face and how you can provide solutions, including event partners Telespazio alongside Uber, PD Ports, UK Space Agency, Tactical Wireless, Seraphim, NERC, Sterling GEO, Environment Agency, Innovate UK, Satellite Applications Catapult and many more.
Catherine Johns, Innovation and Business Growth Director at NE Satellite Applications COE said:
“The ‘challenge led’ focus of the conference is expected to stimulate ideas and solutions from the audience. The Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence embraced this approach over the past twelve months and has seen success from a number of local businesses and collaborations winning contracts and bids. The Northeast Satellite applications sector is going through a period of growth which is largely down to the strength of local collaboration.
“We anticipate that there will be a real buzz around the event. We have seen first-hand how the North East business community has fantastic ideas and solutions for developing new products and services. By bringing the challenges to such an audience we are certain to stimulate such ideas and solutions.”
By attending this exciting forum delegates will raise their awareness of the real opportunities in the sector, including how to deliver into high tech supply chains, finding new applications for their products to develop cities of the future and understanding the support available to help them along the way.
