The choice of workspace in North East England is huge. We have office accommodation, small studios, bespoke offices, collaborative spaces, tech hubs and state-of-the-art development facilities.
Ready-to-move-into space is available in our range of business parks and city centres. We can also develop bespoke solutions to suit individual businesses.
Our collaborative hubs, such as TUS Park, PROTO and the new Immersive and Games Incubation Hub that will open in 2021, offer fantastic studio and development spaces alongside business support, consultancy and engagement with some of the region’s most innovative digital and technology businesses.
We have accelerators to support start-up businesses and to nurture scale-ups locating to the region. The Durham City Incubator runs continuously throughout the year and is a fully funded accelerator programme that supports high-growth start-ups.
Some of the facilities available to support digital and tech businesses in the region:
NETPark based in County Durham, NETPark provides science, technology and engineering companies with a wide choice of world-class laboratory, clean room and office space from the incubation stage of growth to the larger spaces needed by companies who are ready to prototype and scale-up to manufacture on site.
Our cluster of Data Centres makes us one of the most connected regions in the UK. The Stellium Data Centre in North Tyneside is a Tier III+ colocation data centre. It is the UK’s only cable landing station for the new North Sea Connect cable and is the UK’s newest Internet Exchange Point, making it a meeting place for data transfer from east to west, locally and nationally. ITPS and Aspire also operate data centres in the North East.
In early 2021, Gateshead will open an Immersive and Games Incubation Hub in the Northern Design Centre to support start-up games and immersive technology companies. It will provide access to desk and office space, tech specialists, community and aims to connect businesses to leading companies such as Apple, Epic, Steam and publishers through networks and consultants.
Newcastle Helix – a £350 million, 24-acre testbed and collaborative eco-system for public and private bodies that is unlike anything else in the UK. It comprises hundreds of innovators, businesses and progressive homeowners living and working side by side, along with great food, drink and entertainment venues. Businesses who co-locate here benefit profoundly from being in the centre of one of the most important innovation hubs in Europe. Investors can benefit from access to specialised buildings such as The Catalyst and The Core and to the new National Innovation Centre for Data and National Innovation Centre for Ageing.
The National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) at Newcastle Helix links leading academic talent in universities with industry and the public sector to explore how data can improve competitiveness and increase efficiency.
The North East Tees Valley Immersive Lab, managed by North East Tees Valley Digital Catapult, gives businesses the chance to experience immersive technology – such as augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality – first-hand to improve the impact and efficiency of the technology. Academic and research institutions also work with the Lab to advise industry on opportunities for market growth.
PROTO in Gateshead is Europe’s first dedicated centre for emerging technology. Its world-class facilities include a motion capture studio, sound stage for digital content creation and a photogrammetry rig to create 3D models. IC3, the International Centre for Connected Construction, although still in idea stage at present, is a collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector that develops practical digital solutions for positive transformation in the global construction industry.
